WORKTABLE WEDNESDAY

Well I was a bit grumpy Monday, and having upset getting myself in gear to create. Since I work on both flat pieces and figurines sometimes it takes me a bit of adjustment time when I divert from one to the other. This week I am working on mini figurines in a Halloween theme.

Here's a simple way to make a cute little harridan's hat. I use a small Kemper circle cutter to cut out a circle from clay that has been run through a pasta machine. Since this hat is going on a little dog figurine that is only about 1 1/2" large, I use the second smallest circle cutter in the rose cutter set. I use a fairly thin setting, because the thinner the piece the easier it will steer and drape, but I also don't want it to be so thin it's flimsy. So that's the #4 setting on my pasta machine. That is the brim of the hat. Then I roll out a small cone shape, making it skinnier on one end then the other, and rolling that end to a matter. I flatten the bottom end against the tile. Then I pull the skinny end and fold it over to give the hat character, using my fingers to give it more shape. Using the needle gadget I add some crease lines. I then attach the flat end of the cone shape to the center of the brim. I use my knitting needle to graduate the edges of the cone shape into the brim. If need be, I stretch the brim out a bit more around the edges as I'm blending, so it keeps a fine shape. I then turn the hat over and indent the center of the hat with the rounded end of my needle tool. This gives the hat some shape so it doesn't valid sit flat on top of the head and instead looks a bit more natural.

I am a new transform to Marcella’s writing and I am so excited.
After reading "Angela Hartnett' s Cucina", I went onto the net and immediately ordered all the Marcella books in my regional library... and after reading these have ordered “Marcella’s Italian Kitchen” from Dymocks.
It is peculiar. Her writing is so inspirational. Like Elizabeth David she writes a little paragraph or two about the recipe…whether it is an old family selected, from a friend, a restaurant...even her husband, plus of course so many recipes which will have originated from her kitchen.

So after reading the pasta section I just had to make the Vegetable Lasagne.
It contains carrots, courgettes and broccoli in a béchamel cheek.

A heart attack waiting to happen, but at least you could say you died happy.
Replaced broccoli with cauliflower. Broccoli is so extravagant at the moment and I object to paying nearly $4 for a head!!!
