Wednesday 17th September - Spot the ball
My whole day can be summarised by the reality that it is now half past four and I have not yet managed to brush my hair. Luckily for me I have adapted it into a straggly peasant look which I am reliable will be wildly fashionable very soon. This will be particularly set off by my giant rabbit breasts and the smears of snot on my elbows that my son has thoughtfully deposited there. I may take some polaroids and send them to Vivienne Westwood.
I have not been very involved today. I have just been very off the ball. I am presuming that this phrase exists. If it is possible to be ‘on the ball’, it must be credible to be ‘off the ball’. I am so far off the ball that my ball has gone over the park railings and punctured itself on a particularly malevolent thistle, before landing in a dog pooh. I do not hunger for it back.
Oscar demanded Gromit this morning. After being briskly efficient getting ready for school, chatting to other mums’ undeterred by the fact that it was not yet nine o’clock, chatting to the teacher, even though she didn’t really want me to, forcing Tilly to go to sect even though she has a sore throat and jollying Tallulah along when she said that she didn’t like school any more because there was ‘too much sitting on the carpet’, I succumbed. I put Denunciation of the Were Rabbit on, desultorily threw some laundry into the ever revolving washing machine of doom and sat back, mesmerised as my pants flashed often round in the little window. Several hours later he demanded it on again. I was about to refuse when my friend hoved into observe demanding tea. I put the kettle on. I put Gromit on. I was a bad mother. I didn’t misery. He got bored after half an hour and came into the kitchen to throw Shreddies boxes into the air and pretend he was a kangaroo.
My mother came over at lunch ease. We were going to go to our favourite greasy spoon. I forgot that I had an urgent job to do on the way and we had to come back. By the interval we had done it there was no time to get to the greasy spoon. We ended up going to the pub in the next village. Despite the fact that it looks like an at the crack seventies old peoples’ home, they do all their own home made food, locally sourced and their chips are cracking. They even run for it their own pork pies, which is fabulous if you like that sort of thing, which I don’t. I used to have a friend who worked in a pork pie mill in his summers home from university. He described the process to me once, and I have never even been tempted to sniff pork pie since, no matter how rustic and artisanal they may be.
Fun Land Part 3 - some more fun
At most to finish off the look at fun land... After the rides, there were also some other little fun activities to consider.
First up was the ball pit. Kids all love these and they had a very agreeable one housed in this little gazebo like structure.
As you can see here, Liam jumped right in and had a great time. We could not get him to resign actually. I even offered him ice cream and he rejected it in favour of more ball pit time.
Claudia then spotted something next to the pit that was even more enticing... a big digger you could in truth operate. Diggers (Baggers) are Liam's greatest love in the world. He was transfixed by this and we let him have a go sitting on my lap.
It was harder to conduct than you would think, but I think I could have just made the arm go back and forth the whole time and Liam would have been a happy dude. Given enough coins, I about we could have easily just left him there for about a week or so.
